HVR Sports Inc. is a sports portal with a difference. For the first time, a sports portal will not only bring news, views and development in the various fields of sporting activity, it will go one step further to attract tens of thousands of young Indians to take to the sporting arena to go professional.
The brainchild of Harshvardhan Reddy, the online venture, aims to support sports at the grassroots level – in the rural areas of the country. Away from arch lights, Mr Reddy has in fact promoted several organisations which encourage certain unique sports disciplines such as kancha, Chopad ki sadak, Lattu, Ghodi Kachchi Ya Pakki, Ghera, Atya Patya, Kanchey, Gulli Danda, Phugadi, Lathi Chal, Rope Skipping, Langdi Tang & Kanchey, Gulli Danda, Phugadi, Lathi Chal, Sitolia, Dog in the Pond and Chupan Chhupai, etc in rural India. Further, HVR Sports in partnership with Sports Authority of India (SAI) supports Olympic preparation for prospective competitors from the country and various state government bodies through HVR Sports Promotion Foundation (HSPF). Among HSPF’s immediate plans are organising sporting tournaments across the country to identify talent, nurture them and prepare them for competitive games at the national level.
The HVR platform hopes to raise the bar by creating that opportunity. The Group plans to support existing Sports Federations by organising tournaments pan India.
At the next level the foundation will provide coaching to the talented individuals who are hand picked based on their performance in these tournaments. In the first year of its operation, the HSPF will organise school level tournaments in multi sports like hockey, tennis, basketball and athletics. From the second year onward HSPF hopes to reach out around 1,00,000 secondary and senior secondary schools irrespective of their ownership, economic or social strata or the board they are affiliated to. In the next phase, rural, sub-urban elementary schools with a strong focus on rural sports would be included in the programme.
Mr. Harshavardhan Reddy (HVR) comments “Most of our future champions are in schools today and it is here we need to proactively scout for talent, nourish and prepare them to participate and give India its due glory in sports. HVR Sports Inc. is aimed towards bridging the existing ‘needs’ gap through a structured system wherein we hope to eventually reach each and every district in the country to unearth talent and empower them to realise their potential.”
The CEO of HVR Sports Inc, Minky Borbora, also a professional Golf player, has been entrusted with the responsibility of identifying and recruiting senior sports personalities from various sports federations to help realise HVR’s vision of seeing India as one of the top ten sporting nations of the world by 2020.
